Many of my friends and colleagues use Facebook and I have often wondered why. Why is there a need to have your life so publicized for the whole Internet community to see? Why would one want to share such personal information with others, both known and unknown?  Frankly, I am still searching for the answer, but I have created a Facebook account.  I consider myself to be moderately computer savvy, but Facebook is a mystery to me and I have not taken the time to fully explore it nor unravel the mysteries of this social media.  People create Facebook accounts or join other social networks for a variety of reasons, some to make new friends, some to keep up with old friends, others to promote themselves by networking and others, just to be among the "in crowd".  This is the current thing to do, so many flock to do so as well.

Why did I sign up for Facebook?  For a variety of reasons: to network with both new and old friends, to promote my businesses, and to get a feel for the social media scene. Should any of my future clients need my service in creating or upkeep of a social network account, then I will have the experience to provide that service.

Even though, it is quite interesting to reconnect with old acquaintances from many years past. It will also serve as a method for me to stay connected to new acquaintances that I have made in the past year at Bowie State University in the Master’s of Public Administration program as I transition to a different university and program.

So my Facebook journey begins…
